What’s the Coconut?
Coconut is a member of the family Arecaceae (palm family) that harvested from the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). This fruit is an edible fruit and delicious that is one of the widely cultivated crops in the tropical and equatorial zones. A coconut has three layers: the outer layer, the fleshy middle layer and the hard, woody layer that surrounds the seed. Generally when we buy a coconut at the supermarket the outer layer and the fleshy middle layers are removed and what you see is the hard, woody layer.

- Outer features: The coconut has oval or round shape. The outer layers are protective layers and aren’t edible (inedible). These layers are thick, stiff, smooth and hard consist of vegetable fibers and its color is also brown.
- Inner features: When the shell is cracked open, it has a peel with three eyes and a flesh that usually eat both. Coconut flesh is white and hard and also has a liquid that is known as coconut water.
- Flavor and taste: Coconuts fruit has unique flavor and its taste is aromatic, delicious with sweetness levels.

Coconut fruit grown initially Southeast Asia and now there are coconut trees in all tropical areas including Philippines, Indonesia. The Pacific people consume from all parts of the tree as a staple and main food.
